Jason ‘Phats’ Hayward is widely known as the writer, producer, DJ and founding member of the multi million selling Phats & Small. His career has spanned over 2 decades and he has sold over 5 million records worldwide.

Jason started producing at the early age of 7 using instruments and tape-to-tape, formed his first band at 14 and started DJing when he was 18, mentored by the legendary Carl Cox.

Throughout the 90’s Jason signed deals with MFF, ZOOM, ZYX, POLYGRAM, DMC, STRESS writing, remixing and producing many Dance and Club Chart #1’s and already notching up fantastic sales and exposure and working with some of the music industries’ most successful artists and producers including Kathy Brown, Ce Ce Peniston and collaborating with Xenophobias Brian Higgins.

In 1996 Jason started his DJ Phats projects with the launch of his Afrocuts label. The American influenced independent received massive support from international DJ’s and producers including Daft Punk, Norman Cook, Derrick May, Stacey Pullen, Ashley Beedle and DJ Sneak.

With his career in full swing and his services in demand Jason went on to remix Todd Terry, Peech Boys, Tom Browne and Wild Cherry and release his club smash version of George Bensons - Gimme The Night.

In 1998 Jason wrote and produced the international, award winning, smash hit Turnaround which went on to sell over 3 million worldwide and was one of the most played records in Europe in 1999. Following the success of this Jason went onto write and produce multiple Top 10 hits and remixes earning him awards and nominations for his work. He has worked with some of the worlds biggest artists including Arthur Baker, Jean Michelle Jarre, Simply Red and The Lighthouse Family.

His DJing has taken him around the globe playing some of the worlds most respected clubs and continues to do so.

In 2008 we saw the return of Jason Phats and his singer Ben Ofoedu with a signing to Ministry Of Sounds DATA label. The track Can’t Stop was a huge club smash receiving massive support from Radio 1 and international DJ’s.

With a huge catalogue of material and ideas Jason decided to kick start his own label Jason Phats Digital.
